Born in Mishawaka and raised in South Bend by hard working parents who immigrated from Germany, Doris Portolese learned early that nothing worthwhile comes without dedication and responsibility. Those values of hard work, honesty, and perseverance have guided her throughout her life — from her adventurous youth to her successful career and her record of trusted public service.
Doris has always been full of energy and determination. Growing up, she raced motocross, sailed, target shot, windsurfed and today, she is currently working on her pilot's license. She is never afraid of a challenge. That same spirit carried into her professional life. Known for her organization, quick wit, and personable nature, Doris excelled in every job she held. When her children were young, she took a leap of faith to pursue a new career in real estate — a profession where she has thrived for more than 30 years. Through hard work and genuine care for her clients, she’s earned numerous awards and national recognition year after year.
Outside of her official duties, Doris is a dedicated Republican who can always be found lending a hand to help others succeed. Whether it’s volunteering at events, checking in guests, cooking meals, or supporting candidates, she shows up — every time — with heart and purpose. Her loyalty to her friends, community, and party is unmatched.
In 2014, Doris decided to take her leadership skills and business experience into public service by running for Penn Township Trustee — an office she knew could be more efficient, accountable, and service-oriented. That November, voters placed their trust in her, and she has kept that trust ever since.
As Trustee, Doris has delivered results that truly make a difference:
Built a brand-new fire station to improve emergency response times and safety.
Installed a Safe Haven Baby Box, protecting the most vulnerable among us.
Saved taxpayers thousands of dollars annually through fiscal responsibility and smart management.
Supported township employees, improving morale and efficiency.
Ensured transparency and accessibility for all Penn Township residents.
Doris believes that good government starts with good stewardship — managing taxpayer dollars wisely, treating employees fairly, and always putting the community first. Her leadership is guided by common sense and compassion, not politics.
Now seeking re-election, Doris remains focused on the future of Penn Township. Her goals for the next term include continuing to strengthen fire and emergency services, modernizing township systems to serve residents more efficiently, and expanding community outreach programs for families, veterans, and seniors in need. She is also committed to maintaining the township’s strong financial foundation, ensuring that local government remains both effective and accountable.
Doris’s journey is one of hard work, perseverance, and service. From humble beginnings to proven results, she has shown that when you lead with integrity and hard work, good things happen.
With your support, Doris Portolese will continue to serve Penn Township with accountability, transparency, and heart— building on a decade of trusted leadership and a lifetime of dedication to her community.
